PSAT is an important indicator of College and Career Readiness. Sophomores and juniors interested in taking Homestead courses that provide students with the opportunity to earn free college credit should remember that the scores they earn on this exam are used to qualify them for all of our free Dual Credit courses. Dual Credit Qualifying Scores Juniors who do well on this exam may also be eligible for the National Merit Scholarship Program, and other programs that use PSAT/NMSQT scores.
On Tuesday, October 8, sophomores and juniors will take the PSAT at Homestead High School with their advisory. This test will provide students, parents, and school counselors with an earlier and better gauge of post-secondary preparation. After the test, students get free access to BigFuture School if they choose. Big Future School allows students to access their scores, as well as receive information to help plan their future journey to college or career, such as customized career possibilities and information about financial aid and scholarships. AP Potential may also be used after the test to identify students who demonstrate potential for Advanced Placement Courses. Please encourage your students to do their best on this test. Scoring well on the exam can potentially qualify students for scholarships and for free dual credit at Homestead. Buses will be running on October 8th to transport students in grades 10 and 11 for this important exam.
Students in grades 9 will learn from home on October 8th. They will Zoom with their Homestead advisory teachers as they work on their four-year academic plan and they will complete the application needed to take most of Homestead's free college (dual credit) courses that will be offered during their four years at HHS.
Senior students will use the day to visit a college (in person or virtually), complete a job-shadowing experience, or to meet with a recruiter to explore military enlistment opportunities.
