Study Tips:
1. Create your final exam study schedule now... and stick to it. Memory research strongly supports the practice of spacing out studying over a longer period of time so that the information you need will move to the long-term storage capacity of your brain, where it will be available not just for the upcoming exam, but for future use, too. Six 30-minutes sessions spread out over 2 weeks yields far better results than cramming for 3 hours the night before the exam.
2. Find a good study space - free of distractions. Put away your phone or any device that might cause you to lose focus as you study.
3. During the last 3 weeks of school, be sure that you are getting enough sleep each night. (See study tip #1. By sticking to a schedule, you won't find yourself cramming for an exam late into the night.)
4. Try to eat healthy during the last 3 weeks of school. Want an extra boost? Try these "brain foods" during meals and study breaks: berries, protein, nuts, dark chocolate, seeds, salmon, eggs, avocados, broccoli, spinach, and oranges.
5. If you can honestly say you studied really hard for your finals last semester, and you did not do as well as you had hoped... do NOT study the same way again. There is no perfect way to study. Nothing works for every student AND nothing works for every course. You might be able to memorize content for some classes. In other classes, like math, most students do best when the complete as many practice problems as they can, especially over the material they struggled with the most. You need to find what works best for you and the classes you are taking. Use what works and lose what doesn't. Brain-researched Effective Study Strategies
5. Be sure to use any study materials your teachers have created for you. If a teacher went to the trouble to post resources on Canvas for you to use while preparing for their exam... it is because they really want you to do well and they are sure those resources will help you to to achieve that goal.
