HHS Teacher Recognized by Ivy Tech

Teacher Tim Decker, Homestead High School, has been announced as the Dual Credit Faculty Award Nominee for Ivy Tech’s distinguished President’s Award for Excellence in instruction by the Fort Wayne/Warsaw campus.

The President’s Awards for Excellent in Instruction honor Ivy Tech Community College’s most prestigious faculty and adjunct faculty for their accomplishments both in and out of the classroom.  The distinguished nomination is given to instructors noted for excellence in instruction of dual credit courses and their ongoing commitment to the craft of teaching and inspiring students.

 Decker has been a teacher at Homestead High School for over 32 years, as well as served as a Captain in the United States Coast Guard Reserve for more than 25 years (retired).

Leading students in HHS’ dual credit courses in Psychology, Government, Sociology and Introduction to Homeland Security, his nomination recognized his ability to bring real-world perspective to his classes with his military experience enabling high school students to receive college credit.

"I would like to nominate Tim Decker, our PSYC Dual Credit instructor of many years, for a dual credit teaching award,” read the nomination by Leigh Ann Routh, Psychology Program Chair, Ivy Tech.  “He is an excellent candidate for many reasons, including past students’ favorable comments, willingness to share knowledge and materials with new instructors and his overall commitment to excellence in classroom instruction.  He is always prompt to respond to emails and diligent about completing his work with excellence and timeliness.”
