PSAT DAY FOR SENIORS

PSAT DAY FOR SENIORS ONLY!
Posted on 09/17/2019

Seniors and Parents,

Wednesday, October 16, 2019 is an opportunity for seniors to job shadow or visit a college. While sophomores and juniors are testing on this day, seniors will be afforded the opportunity to gain information on a college or career.

For this to be a success it must be a joint effort of parents, students, and the school. Since students will not report to school if they choose this activity, we (the school) must know that you (the parents) know where they are and what they are doing.

The following activities will be approved for participation:

  • Job Shadow – but it cannot be at a place of regular employment.  Arrangements must be made to go to work with someone in a career of interest. The day could be split between two occupations.
  • On-Campus College Visit – Make an appointment ahead of time, and visit a college. Parents are encouraged to accompany students. PLEASE DO NOT JUST SHOW UP AT THE COLLEGE.  CALL AHEAD AND MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. PHONE NUMBERS ARE AVAILABLE ON-LINE AT THE COLLEGE WEBSITES.
  • Other educational related activity – proposed on an individual basis, IF approved by a Guidance Counselor.

If the senior student chooses not to participate in one of the above activities, he or she will be expected to be in school in a supervised study hall for the day. Parents must notify attendance if the student will be using one of his or her 10 Parent Excuses, rather than attend the activities or this supervised study hall. Students who do not participate or attend the study hall who have used all of their parent excuses will be counted as truant, and disciplinary action will follow.

As soon as arrangements are finalized, the school must receive notice of what your child is doing on this day. Parents may contact the attendance office by phone (do not wait until the morning of October 16th to call), at (260) 431-2205, OR by printing and completing the form below and returning it to the Attendance Office no later than 2:35 p.m. October 11. If students bring proper documentation to the attendance office when they return to school on October 17th, (confirmation of their college visit or job shadow on college/company letterhead with a representative’s signature) the day will not go towards their ten parent excused days.  Also, October 16th is not considered as one of the three college visit days allowed for seniors.

PRINT & RETURN THIS FORM (SENIOR OPPORTUNITY)  TO THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE (Door 4) NO LATER Than 2:35 pm October 11.
