English 11AB

Step 1:

Choose a book from the titles offered!

Below are lists of titles to choose from. Browse the list and pick a book to read.

Step 2:

The assignment...

While reading your chosen book, please highlight, sticky note, or annotate how the author uses characterization to help you understand the characters in the story.

Speech What does the character say? How does the character speak?

Thoughts What is revealed through the character’s private thoughts and feelings?

Effect on others toward the character. What is revealed through the character’s effect on other people? How do other characters feel or behave in reaction to the character?

Actions What does the character do? How does the character behave?

Looks What does the character look like? How does the character dress?

After reading your chosen book, please make a list of character traits for the protagonist and the antagonist in the story. A protagonist is the main character in the story and the antagonist is the main character’s opponent (often an enemy). We will then use this information for an in-class assignment.

Please Note:  This list was created to allow significant choice for students with varied interests.Ultimately, the choice of the title from this list is up to students and parents.
