Dramatic Literature

Welcome to the Dramatic Literature 2018-2019 Summer Reading Program.

Step One: Book Selection

  • From the list below, choose a book that looks interesting to you.

*The list was created to allow significant choice for students with varied interests. Ultimately, the choice of the title from this list is up to students and parents.

Step Two: Assignment During Reading

  • While reading your chosen book, please highlight, sticky note, or annotate for motifs.

  • Motifs:  symbols, images, or ideas that keep popping up in the book again and again.

Step Three: Assignment After Reading

  • After reading your chosen book, please write a response and answer the following questions:

  • What do you think the theme of the book is?

  • How have the items you have marked helped to develop that theme?

**Use the motifs you noted during your reading to guide your thinking about theme.  What is the repetition of those symbols or ideas saying about the world/life?

Your response should be written on a notecard (one side).  Please bring it to class on the first day of school.

Step Four: In August

  • Upon returning to school in August, you will complete analysis and reflection assignments connected to the reading.

  • Students will use quotes and passages to showcase and analyze theme .

Please contact Mrs. Susan Summers at ssummers@sacs.k12.in.us if you have any questions.
