Composition Course

Composition 2018-2019 Summer Reading Program

Step 1: Get started...

From the list below, choose a book that looks interesting to you.

Please Note: This list was created to allow significant choice for students with varied interests. Ultimately, the choice of the title from this list is up to students and parents.*

Step 2: The assignment while reading...

While reading your chosen book, please highlight, sticky note, or annotate for things you find effective/interesting about the author’s diction, syntax, detail, emphasis, writing style, and use of motifs (motifs are ideas, symbols, or images that appear in a book over and over again).

11-12 Literature & Composition

Step 3: The assignment after reading...

After reading your chosen book, please write a response and answer the following questions:  What do you think the theme of the book is?  How have the items you have marked helped to develop that theme?  Your response should be written on a 5”x 8” notecard.  Please bring it to class on the first day of school.

Please contact Susan Summers at if you have any questions.
